Ingredients

  • 1½ cups oats
  • ½ cup cocoa powder (or cacao powder for a richer flavour)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • ¼ cup Nutella or any chocolate spread
  • 5 Medjool dates, pitted
  • 1 cup dark or milk chocolate for melting and dipping
  • 1 tsp coconut oil for melting
  • About 8 squares of the opposite chocolate for the drizzle on top

Instructions

  1. Blend the dry mix by adding the oats and cocoa powder into a bowl and mix together.
  2. Soak 5 dates in some boiling water for about 10 minutes and blend in a food processor. Make sure dates are pitted.
  3. Add the ‘wet ingredients’ into a separate bowl by pouring in maple syrup, Nutella, dates and vanilla extract. Stir until combined.
  4. Mix this together with your oats and coco powder until the dough sticks together like brownie mix.
  5. Check the texture, it should be perfect to shape into balls. It should be sticky enough to roll but not wet. If it feels a little dry, add some more Nutella or maple syrup.
  6. Roll into 12 equal balls and place on a tray lined with parchment paper.
  7. Melt around 1 cup of Milk chocolate with coconut oil in the microwave and mix every 30 seconds until smooth.
  8. Dip each ball and cover with the melted milk chocolate.
  9. Pop in the fridge to set.
  10. Melt the 8 squares of dark chocolate in the same way as above and drizzle the chocolate over the set balls.
  11. Refrigerate again for 20–30 minutes, then transfer to an airtight container.
  12. Store in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer.

Variations & Add-Ins

  • For a protein boost add a scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder for extra nutrition.
  • Double down on the chocolate and stir in chocolate chips for true brownie truffles.
  • Instead of melted chocolate, roll them in cocoa powder or drizzle with white chocolate for a fancy look.
